JUNE 16, 2009 - A 17-year-old boy died 16 hours after he was struck by a car while riding his skateboard shortly before dawn, authorities said. Dustin Rogers Martin of Hesperia died at 9 p.m. at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, according to Riverside County coroner’s officials. Martin was injured earlier in the day when a sedan struck him while he rode along Cottonwood Avenue, about 15 yards north of Poplar Street, officials said. The driver of the car, Kenneth Stotelmyre, fled the scene but later returned with his father. He was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, authorities said. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident.
