JULY 15, 2009 - A 14-year-old boy died as a result of injuries suffered when he was hit by a pickup truck while crossing a street, authorities said. Hayden Meier of Rancho Santa Margarita was attempting to cross Euclid Street before it turns into Ellis Avenue about 8:50 p.m., when he was hit by a 2007 Ford F-150 traveling south on Euclid, according to the Fountain Valley Police Department. Witnesses said Meier darted across the street near the 405 Freeway overpass, and the driver didn’t see the boy until it was too late. Meier was transported to UCI Medical Center in Orange where he was treated for multiple injuries, including head trauma, authorities said. The boy remained unconscious until he was removed from life support Tuesday, police said. Alcohol was not considered a factor in the pedestrian accident, but the Fountain Valley Police Department is continuing its investigation.
